World Red Cross Day !

May 8, is celebrated every year as world red cross or red crescent day to celebrate the good work that the red cross movement does everyday around the world. Henry Dunant was the founder of the red cross as well as the founder international committee of the red cross(ICRC), born in the Geneva in the year 1828. He was the most famous person and became the recipient of first Nobel Peace Prize.

Henry Dunant started this movement after witnessing the horrors on the battlefield during the battle of solferino in 1859 in Italy between the Austrian army and the franco-sardinian alliance. The red cross flag, which looks like an inverted swiss flag, was designed by Henry Durant to pay homage to his homeland. 

World red cross day is an annual event celebration, celebrating the principles of international red cross and red crescent movement. It is celebrated every year to pay tribute to the volunteers participated in the event as well as welcome their precious contribution for helping peoples in need.

The theme of world red cross day 2019 is “#Love”. The theme will focus on asking peoples in what they love about red cross and red crescent. Various blood donation programmes will also be ogranized at places across the country and the organization will urge people to donate blood on a humanitarian basis to observe the day and help those who are in distress. so, red cross is an active participant in a wide number of programs and services including emergency response, disasters, preparedness and community based health and care, first aid training and activities restoring family contact for disaster victims and youth and volunteer activities. 

The fundamental principles recognized during world red cross day are impartiality, humanity, independence, neutrality, voluntary, universality & unity.
